Thai completed his specialty training in Endodontics from The University of Melbourne in 2007 and his postgraduate training in restorative dentistry from The University of Liverpool, England in 2002.

Thai is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow, a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and a Member of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the specialty field of Endodontics. During his final year as a dental student in 1999, Thai wanted to broaden his dental experience overseas and upon graduation secured employment as a dentist in Singapore, England and New Zealand. Thai is also an examiner for The Australian Dental Council examining foreign trained dentists since 2008.
